...happen to have seen a few concerts in the last several weeks. firstly i saw the mouse on mars/ratatat/junior boys play sonar here in vancouver. junior boys while playing a very short set absolutely killed me with how well their stuff came across live. wish they were given more time. ratatat sucked in a huge guitar wankery way. far too much noodling.MoM were as good as i remembered [having caught them several years back opening for stereolab at the palladium]. the addition of the drummer/vocalist has made them more of a band than just a electronics act.

...also saw supersilent play to a smallish[130] crowd at a gig put on by the coastal jazz society.it was hilarious watching some of the "fans" leave after just one song. i don't believe they were ready for the freeform stuff they dished out. it was about as punk rock as i'd ever seen[not that they are in any way a punk band].

...the stars opened for death cab for cutie on nov.12th. although not really a fan of their cds,i must admit to being thoroughly entertained by the stars live set.my only quibble may be the male singers insistence on being gracious[x6] to DCFC for letting them open their show. as good as DCFC were,i found myself realising just how much all their songs sound very similar, not something i'd really caught with their albums.still enjoyed the concert though.

...the show i was really anticipating was isis at mesa luna on wednesday night. unfortunately due to other commitments, i was only able to see them perform their last two songs. really good mind you,but i definately would have liked to have heard more. the impression i got from watching them though was that of a bunch of guys that just liked to play. heads down, really focused on their instruments. for anyone that might be seeing them soon, bring a few bucks as they had tons of merch for sale at really cheap prices.
