2002 favourites:: continued...
digitonal - "23 things fall apart"(toytronic)::going to have to agree with bellevie's comment below and have this in my faves.for those of you who need electronic music to have a voice,check out this cd. no vocals per se,but the stings used can easily be thought of as singing. digitonal have taken a very fresh approach to the way they play this genre.there are samples of this and other toytronic releases up on the label site. check out "come and play" in particular.
if you are a fan of the rachels and want to hear something along those lines with a bit of an edge,this may be the ticket.
fyi::the vinyl has 6 cuts,the cd has 7

2002 favourites:: continued...
flaming lips - "yoshimi battles the pink robots"(warner bros.):: anyone who has read this blahg this year probably knows what i think of this. suffice to say that it remains one of my favourites of 2002. although no-where near as weird or raw as their earlier pre "soft bulletin" stuff the boys continue to write great songs. i enjoy listening to this with headphones at near ear damaging levels . especially nice is the way the bass is the lead on "one more robot/sympathy 3000-21" and also on "in the morning of the magicians" .i also believe "do you realize??" should have been as big as "she don't use jelly" .

....hmmmm....

thanks brap!

...as you have no doubt read,joe strummer died on dec.22/02. sadly another of my heroes is gone. between dee dee ramone,mary hansen,john entwhistle, and now this....well 2002 has been a bitch for the music fan. and add to the fact that joe was just 5 years older than me....

...as paul has pointed out,i have been more miss than hit posting on this site.new years resolution to self will include trying to blahg a bit more often. hopefully the resolution won't go the way of so many of my past ones.

2002 favourites:: continued...
sonic youth - "murray street":: wow! more like sonic approaching middle-agers. saying that is more of a comment on how vital these folks have managed to stay.when so many older bands and performers [calling elvis costello] are on auto-pilot the youth manage to come up with their best in several years. now if only it was a five-song ep as opposed to a 7-track lp.....you know,possibly drop the two kim gordon sung songs. using paul's system:: overall score 71%[5 great songs out of a possible 7]

...more favourites to follow...

.. i know that i am a little late with this,but here is hoping that all the fine folks listed [ and anyone else that reads this] on the side bar had a great christmas and it continues on through the rest of the year! ! !
