...gonna steal a review from a friend of mine ,jeff klein. he has written far more eloquently about the following release than i could ever hope to.
Future Bible Heroes : Eternal Youth

In two words, synthpop bliss. This is not some kind of electroclash type
throwback; this is a Vince Clarke wet dream. Think back to early Depeche or
The Assembly (Vince's series of one-off singles with various vocalists -
Feargal Sharkey and Paul Quinn).
Add Stephin "Magnetic Fields" Merritt's incredible talent for lyrics and
Claudia Gonson's (another Magnetic Fields cohort) vocals along with Chris
Ewen's (Figures on a Beach, anyone?) LUSH, synthesizer drenched melodies
and there you have it. More hooks than a commercial fishing vessel. If I
made top ten lists - and I don't - this would definitely be up there.
It has the charm and power of a Magnetic Fields release (Merritt's lyrics
are amazing...clever, funny, sarcastic. Check "Find and Open Window" for an
ode to suicide amidst one of the most beautiful and melancholy melodies
which ever graced a synth - or a bank of them, I should say), but Ewen
eschews the lo-fi production which one finds on Holiday (a Magnetic Fields
gem) for a rich, layered gloss which is surprisingly hot in the VUs. I hate
to gush, but this record is just beautiful. Yes, Ewen is an old friend of
mine - but that has absolutely nothing to do with my evaluation. I remember
when Chris and I used to listen to and collect the great synthpop music of
the early 70s. He has made a record which at once takes from the best of it
and yet doesn't sound like it was pinched, contrived or derivative. It just
works.

...so my daughter and myself caught swollen members instore at virgin records tonight. i must say that these boys have a helluva lot of energy. sure they only did 5 songs ,but man they jumped around the whole time. very infectious entertainers, that i will try and catch again in a club setting. moka only is now a full time member and it's probably the wise thing to do given how popular these guys are becoming. gotta mention how short madchild is though.....maybe 5'5" . the new album is a collection of b-sides and rarities which is usually the sign of a weak release, but no this is not bad at all.

...almost forgot....for all of my reader in the vancouver area, swollen members are doing an instore at the virgin record store on robson friday night at 8:00 pm. should be crammed...
...my friend ,jeff tipped me to this guy doing minimal electronic music in sweden. his name is Tobias Lilja and he has self released two cdrs. if you are into ~scape and other berlin/cologne sounds, check him out.

...been listening to the future bible heroes - "eternal youth". although all the songs were written by the band, there is something eerily familiar about the first track. i am sure i have heard it before. i like the disc alot and especially find that the little pieces between the longer songs to be nice. i was never a fan of claudia gonsons voice, but either she has become a stronger singer or they have manipulated her voice in the studio. whatever,at least i am able to listen to something she is on in its entirety.

this news from the life without buildings email list::

Dear All,

Some of you may have guessed this already by the lack of activity on our
website and elsewhere, but we feel we should make it official and
announce that Life without buildings is no longer a band. We want to say
how much we appreciate all of the support that's been given to us over
the past couple of years - thank you ;) it's been a lot of fun. For the
moment the website will stay up, and we'll use it to keep you up to date
with any future developments that might interest you. None of us have
any intention to stop making music and it's likely that members of the
band will keep playing together in some form or other.

We want to say our most sincere thanks to all the people that have made
Lwb so enjoyable for us: Andy, Pat and Peter at Chem19; Glen, James,
Geoff and all at Tugboat/Rough Trade; Tom at Trifekta; Ryan and Ricky at
DC/Baltimore 2012; Dave, Matt and Morro at Handsome Tours; Andreas and
Petyr at Puschen; Aereogramme, driver Drew; Panagiotis, Makis, Chris and
everyone we met in Athens; Gersey, 99, Art of Fighting, and everyone we
met in Australia; the Gooner and all of you who liked our music and told
us so.

Thanks a million - and, you know, keep on rocking.

Lwb - Chris, Robert, Sue, Will
